Starring: Robert Taylor, Lilli Palmer, Curt Jurgens, Eddie Albert and the SRS horses
This is the classic 1963 Disney film based on a true story, released for the first time in many years, and now on DVD. The famous Lipizzaner Stallions and the breeding mares and foals are threatened by the ravages of World War II. The SRS staff under the guidance of Colonel Podhajsky risk their lives to illegally transport the horses outside the city of Vienna until American troops under the command of General Patton can help rescue the horses and reunite the mares and stallions so the Spanish Riding School can continue to exist as it had for hundreds of years.
[TRIVIA: The red uniform that is used at the end of the movie is not original. The Spanish Riding school never used a red uniform. Disney found the original brown uniform too simple for a gala opening and introduced these uniforms.]
